Dear Miki,

Well, Here I’m in New York City I still can’t believe that I’m actually here. I arrived on Saturday. After a long flight from Paris on Air France. The food was excellent, and so was the movie. We saw gone with the wind. I stayed Saturday and Sunday nights at the Fairmount hotel near Rockefeller Center. Then on Monday I moved into my dormitory at New York University.

I spent my entire first weekend here sightseeing. I saw many famous places : Rockefeller Center, The United Nations , The Guggenheim Museum, The New York stock exchange, and The Statue of Liberty. I window-shopped at fifth avenue. I also visited another famous art museum and the NBC Television Studios.

Today is a holiday in the United States. It’s labor day, so all government offices, schools, and banks are closed. People in the United States celebrate the end of summer by having a three-day weekend. Many New Yorkers spend the day in Central Park or go to the beach on Long Island.

I learned some interesting things about New York. It’s nickname is ”the Big Apple”, but no one knows why it’s called an apple and not a banana or an orange. Another interesting fact is that the first Europeans who came here bought Manhattan Island from the natives for only $ 24. Of course, it’s now worth trillions of dollars.

Well, that’s all for now. Classes begin next week. I’m having a good time, but I miss you all, and I really miss French food. Write soon.

Parangtritis Beach

Landscape Parangtritis – Yogya is very enchanting. Visible to the left of a very high cliff and on the right we can see a large rock that seems ready to keep the onslaught of the waves that come at any time. Number of tourists who always visit this Parangtritis made beach. This is never empty of visitors. Parangtritis on the beach we can play sand and feel the fresh sea breeze blowing. We also can ride a horse or similar transport carriage which can lead us to the ocean reef area is extremely beautiful, late afternoon, we could see sunset is a very special moment to see the sun if amuse into the expanse of sea water.

The Importance of Mathematics

Nowadays, mathematics study has been ignored despite the importance of mathematics itself for all kinds of things. Some stakeholders are confused about picking up mathematics fresh graduate. Just as we know mathematics is a wide knowledge and less applicative. Those reasons work for stakeholders, make them think twice to use mathematics fresh graduate. However, mathematics is a must and is needed for everything, such as economic transactions, accounting, and so on.

Collegers of mathematics must have skill wide enough master it. Mathematics is different than other knowledge in general, other knowledge is proven that it can work without mathematics. From this point, we all can see that colleger or mathematics fresh graduate are still needed by stakeholders or companies.

But seriously, in my perspective all the guys in that class doesn’t seem to care wether they get something or not by partake in class, basically most of them think that study is sucks.. Its true that technology nowadays can solve each and every problem, we just need to browse it all.. but still..

Anyways, back to video.. the video explain explicitly :

• ·         “I complete 49% of the readings assigned to me.. only 26% relevant to my life”
• ·         “I buy hundred dollar textbook that I never open”
• ·         “I spent 3,5 hours a day online”
• ·         “I listen to music 2,5 hours a day”
• ·         “I spend 2 hours on my cellphone”
• ·         “Im a multitasker.. (I have to be)..”
• ·         “This laptop costs more than some people in the world make in a year”
• ·         “I facebook through most of my class”
• ·         “I bring my laptop to class but im not working on class stuff”

As I myself am a student, deep inside my heart agree with some of them.. only a little bit the knowledge that I got from college relevant to me, indeed I am too ever buy a textbook and wont bother read it.. Chatting is much more “useful” to me if I chat a correct person than take my class for a year..

Fortunately that just a bad n temporary thought. In my opinion, studying or taking a class isn’t useless, not in the slightest. If you see from your parent perspective, I’m sure you will change your opinion, they all work hard to make us become success.. how about the high tech nowadays? Well, if I can affort it, I’ll buy it, for what? Of course for the complement to my textbook, not for its substitute.. The internet that available for me.. its only purpose is to help me get more and more knowledge.. coz I believe.. really believe that ALL OF MY KNOWLEDGES that I have and get.. WILL NEVER BETRAY ME, instead, it will help me become much more useful person.

The moral is, as we Indonesian and respect and love all of our parents, we should take class seriously..END

Problems In the Classroom (This is "excellent with morality")

A problem occurred during my study of second english , the classroom that Im in was suppose to be contain only.. 40 students, but the fact, there were around 75 students who attented second english (Wauu !!).. it was awful..

the lecturer then gave a solution that the students who didn’t get a chair must borrowed it from next class.. and so the class started after that.. Well, I could say the situation got worse, its practically uncondusive to study in such a small class with lots of students..

I could only say, it was a systematical problem.. the administrative could do a better job than this.. coz in the end, we students who got the disadvantage here… END
